As your child grows, they need a prosthesis or orthosis that can grow with them and their goals! At AOPC, we are committed to working with you and your child to ensure their device supports them throughout their adventures.

What will your child’s prosthetic/orthotic journey look like?

1. Meeting your team

Your clinician will be following you through your child’s journey! We do our best to create a safe and comfortable environment for you to meet your clinician and ask any questions.
2. Assessment & Treatment Planning

Your clinician will assess your child’s limb and functional status as well as their goals. They will then develop a plan unique to your child.
3. Funding

Our team will help to guide you through the funding process.
4. Casting

Your clinician will take a shape capture of your child’s limb which will then be used to fabricate your child’s prosthesis or orthosis!
5. Device Fitting

Once the device has been fabricated, it is ready to be fit! The device will be fit on your child and adjustments will be made to ensure a comfortable and functional fit.
6. Follow-Up & Adjustments

Your clinician will continuously re-evaluate your child’s device, fit, and goals, making adjustments as necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

We aim to have a child in a prosthesis/orthosis early in their development/recovery to help with adoption into their life. Contact us to see if it is the right time to meet with a clinician!
It is best if your child wears clothes that can be easily pulled up to assess the limb (shorts/t-shirt are great!).
Since each device is custom made, our turnaround time is typically 2 weeks. Your clinician will confirm this when they re-book you for a fitting.
If you hear, see, or feel the device breaking, or if your child is complaining of new pain or new sores, stop wearing the prosthesis/orthosis and come in to see your clinician!
Children grow, so the prosthesis/orthosis needs to as well! If there are new pressure spots (redness, sores, pain, etc.), your child can’t get into their device, or something is not working well, come in to see your clinician.

At AOPC, we treat all levels and causes of amputation and motor impairment. Whether your child’s condition is congenital or acquired, we are committed to working with you and your child to develop a unique solution!

Lower Limb

Prosthetics: We treat all lower extremity amputations, including congenital limb deficiencies, rotationplasty amputations, and traumatic amputations.
Orthotics: We treat all causes of lower limb impairment with a custom orthosis, such as foot orthotics, AFO’s, KAFO’s, and more!
Upper Limb

Prosthetics: We treat all upper extremity amputation levels and causes. We are experienced in myoelectric devices. Ask your prosthetist for more info!
Orthotics: We make all upper limb and trunk orthotics, including WHOs, TLSO’s, and more!
Specialty Options

Cosmetics: Show your style! With your prosthesis/orthosis, we can make it in a design or colour of your choice! Speak to your clinician about your cosmetic options.
Recreational: Speak to your clinician about an activity-specific prosthesis or orthosis!
