Meet our team

All of the clinicians are Canadian certified, which requires a minimum of eight years of post-secondary education and training. Each of them have more than 10 years of experience since receiving their certification.

Jon Allen CP (c)

Certified Prosthetist

jon@aopconline.com

Jon's passion for his work begins and ends with his patients. Fitting a prosthetic device takes time so he has an opportunity to become closely acquainted with his patients.  He says "I know their families.  I know their lives.  I get to know and see the benefits my services make in all of those."

He is a member with Orthotics and Prosthetics Canada and currently holds the position of president for the Alberta Association of Orthotists and Prosthetists.  He is also a life member of AASRA. (Alberta Amputee Sports and Recreation Association).

In his work to provide individual service and solutions to each client, he has refined the use of a double wall socket system for transtibial and transfemoral amputees leading to better suspension with drastically reduced breakdown of suction sleeves and freer motion of the limb. The result is that patients experience greater motion and less discomfort.

Education:

Clinical training at BCIT - 1996

Co-founder of Alberta Artificial Limb in 2000, sole owner in 2007, Alberta Artificial Limb is renamed Alberta Orthotic & Prosthetic Centre in January of 2016.  First user of OPIE P&O management software in Alberta

He began his training in London Ontario, in a busy private practice which focused on pediatric orthoses. It was here that he attained his Boston Brace certification for idiopathic scoliosis while being involved in the scoliosis, pediatric neurology and orthopedics clinics.

His career took him to Edmonton where he focused on sports orthoses and complex feet.  He completed his training with a prosthetic residency in Calgary.  He is currently  a member of the Limb Preservation Clinic at the Peter Lougheed Hospital dealing with high risk feet.

Connor has volunteered with Broken Earth and has the privilege of providing prosthetic and orthotic services in Haiti.  He believes the integration of technology strengthens the clinical environment maximizing patient success.

When he isn't helping his patients he participates in competitive water polo, which he has coached and played for many years.  In the winter, you', ll find him on the ski hill with his family, either skiing and/or snowboarding.  He would surf everyday if only the ocean was near.

Michelle Pickard CP (c)

Certified Prosthetist

Michelle has  always wanted to help people. Her interest in helping others started in high school, where she volunteered at a rehabilitation center, as well as a school for the disabled.

She says she always knew she wanted to be in healthcare but wanted to combine her interest in helping others with her creativity and interest in working with her hands. Prosthetics provided the best of both worlds, providing opportunities to be creative in finding unique solutions to better serve her patients.

She works closely with her patients, developing a trusting relationship that is so important in helping them achieve their goals. For Michelle seeing the difference she can make in their lives is one of her greatest rewards.

Carla Reimer B.SC CO (c)

Certified Orthotist

Carla@aopconline.com

Carla always always tells her friends and family that she has the best job in the world.  She's excited to get up every morning to go to work and finds it very rewarding to make positive changes in her patients’ lives.  She enjoys helping people reach their goals and even exceed their expectations.

"It can be as simple as reducing pain or as challenging as renewing a paraplegic's ability ability to stand and walk," she says.

She believes it's important to make personal connections with her patients so they feel comfortable coming back and believes orthotic treatment is a lifetime commitment which will always evolve and improve over time.

Carla has been a member of the Banff Sports Medicine team since 2009 where she provides orthotic treatment for patients in the Bow Valley and Southern Alberta areas.  She contributes her time to the orthopaedic intake clinic once a week at the Mineral Springs Hospital, and also sees patients in a private physiotherapy clinic in Canmore once a week.

She's part of a pilot project team of Sport Medicine Physicians and Physiotherapists who are developing the process for conservative treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee, offering monthly clinics for patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis.

Carla also participates in a Run IQ clinic to help treat runners who have been injured. She works with a team that includes a sports medicine physician, a physiotherapist and a running coach to create synchronized treatment plans to help injured athletes regain their pre-injury running level.
